Instagram is rolling out a new disappearing-photo feature called “Instants,” drawing comparisons to Snapchat and BeReal. The feature lets users share photos that disappear after a single viewing and are limited to specific audiences. Sources say Instants can be sent to “Close Friends” or to mutual followers who follow the user back. Instants photos cannot be edited, and they are designed for casual, everyday sharing. TechCrunch and other outlets report the photos can be viewed only once and remain available for a limited time—24 hours—before they are no longer accessible. Several reports also note that Instants begins rolling out globally, with availability starting on Wednesday. In addition to the main feature inside Instagram, Business Standard reports Instagram is testing or offering a separate Instants app in some places, while Inc. and other outlets say access is available through Instagram and/or a dedicated app depending on region. One outlet also reports that content may be archived and later shared as Stories, though details on this vary by report.
