Tottenham win their pre-season match against Auckland FC at Eden Park in New Zealand with goals from Dane Scarlett and Richarlison. Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi says he chose a youthful lineup and did not want to take unnecessary risks during the friendly against A-League champions Auckland.
Mateus Fernandes, Tottenham’s £85 million signing from West Ham, is the only one of the club’s major summer arrivals to feature in the match. Sandro Tonali, who joined Tottenham in a £100 million deal from Newcastle United, does not play after missing out due to what de Zerbi describes as “one small problem.”
The match also sees several other established players absent from the lineup. Defenders Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi do not figure in Tottenham’s squad for the fixture.
