President Bola Tinubu appoints Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives). Multiple outlets report that the appointment is communicated in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dated Sunday.

The new appointee replaces Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who resigns to contest for an elective position in his home state, according to the reports. Sources describe Dr. Olanrewaju-Smart as a scholar and public policy expert. Premium Times notes academic credentials including a PhD in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.

Several outlets also outline his legislative and government experience, including work connected to leadership in the House of Representatives across the 7th to 10th Assemblies, later roles within the presidency, and his work as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Intergovernmental Affairs from October 2023 until the new appointment. The appointment is reported to take effect immediately.
