Shaw says the moment began as a playful gesture, and that it quickly became the focus of public attention. According to Shaw, within a day it turned into sensational media coverage, including headlines that framed the incident in terms of his sexuality and whether he was straight or gay. He also says that while he felt comfortable at the time, the attention and scrutiny persisted and affected him, especially because he was new to the industry.
In addition to recounting his own experience, Shaw comments on Ram Kapoor’s kissing gestures in the reality show “Lock Upp,” including recent controversy referenced in the coverage. Shaw says Ram is expressive but suggests he should manage emotions and be mindful that not everyone may react the same way. He adds that people in the show appear to get offended or feel awkward when similar gestures occur.
Shaw also notes that the channel later clarified the incident, but he says the episode continued to bother him for a long time.
