Multiple reports say the incident occurs in the ground-plus-one storeyed structure on Hansraj Road, Byculla East. Fire brigade teams and police officials respond after the fire is reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade at around 8:20 pm. Authorities classify the blaze as a minor level-1 incident shortly afterward and work to control it.
By late evening, the fire is brought under control and extinguished, with one report stating it is doused by around 9:00 pm. Both outlets say no injuries or casualties are reported. Officials indicate that the preliminary, prima facie cause is a short circuit, though they also note that an investigation is underway and further action is being taken.
