Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, orders the military to intensify counter-terrorism operations across the North-West following a recent surge in attacks in Zamfara State. In a statement delivered through his spokesperson, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Matawalle conveys condolences to victims, including residents of Bungudu Local Government Area and other affected communities, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s resolve to restore lasting peace in the region.
The directive instructs troops involved in Operation FANSAN YAMMA and other security formations to step up offensive actions and improve operational readiness. The minister specifically calls for strengthened surveillance, increased patrols, and efforts to dismantle terrorist camps and hideouts using lawful means. He also urges traditional rulers, community leaders, and the public to provide timely intelligence to support security operations.
Matawalle commends the Armed Forces for recent successes in neutralising terrorists in areas such as Gummi, Bukkuyum, Anka, Tsafe, and Faskari, and calls for security forces to sustain momentum until threats are fully contained and normalcy is restored.
