A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, led by its national chairman Ibe Kachikwu, is reported to be aligning with the Rainbow Coalition associated with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to a viral video and accounts from a meeting held in Isiokpo, the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area, ADC officials say they received instructions from Kachikwu to support Wike’s coalition.

The ADC secretary in Ikwerre, Samuel Chuku, is heard stating that the ADC leadership has directed the party in Rivers to align with Wike’s coalition, while the Supreme Court is expected to resolve an ADC leadership dispute. The faction says it remains the authentic ADC leadership in Ikwerre and will continue the alignment pending the court’s decision. They also urge supporters of the former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi to stop presenting themselves as ADC executives in the local government.

The reports describe the engagement as a formal announcement of their electoral plans and their stance during an ongoing party leadership contest.
