Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says he made a “secret visit” to the United Arab Emirates during the war on Iran, citing the period of Operation “Roaring Lion.” According to the Israeli statement, Netanyahu traveled to the UAE and met with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, presenting the meeting as a “historic breakthrough” in relations between the two countries. Hours after the Israeli announcement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denies the claims, saying it does not accept reports about Netanyahu visiting the country or Israel receiving any Israeli military delegation there. The UAE adds that its relations with Israel are public and are not based on non-transparent or unofficial arrangements, and says any unannounced visits or undisclosed arrangements are unfounded unless officially announced by Emirati authorities.
Several outlets report the dispute has drawn wider attention to the Israel-UAE alliance. Iran’s foreign minister also condemns the allegation, characterizing it as “collusion” and warning that those “colluding with Israel” will be held to account. The reported episode follows prior US statements that Israel has provided Iron Dome air-defence systems and personnel to operate them in the UAE during the Iran war.
