A 28-year-old care worker, Ciara Corvan, is sentenced for sending humiliating Snapchat images and videos of dementia patients she was tasked with caring for. Reports say Corvan, from Cathedrals View in Armagh, worked at Craigavon Area Hospital in 2023 and used Snapchat to share the material with co-workers. According to multiple outlets, the judge at Craigavon Crown Court said Corvan failed in her duty to treat patients with the respect and dignity to which they were entitled. One report says images included a patient pictured in a bath, and BBC News describes the videos as “demeaning.”
The Independent reports Corvan pleaded guilty to seven counts of ill treatment of patients. The sentencing remarks referenced the patients’ vulnerability and the nature of the conduct. Families and other accounts quoted by some outlets characterise the posts as mocking and aimed at entertaining, but the core court finding across reports is that Corvan ill-treated patients by posting degrading content while they were under her care.
