Three customers sue Apple in federal court, alleging that a fraudulent “Sparrow Wallet” cryptocurrency app impersonating the Sparrow desktop wallet was distributed through the Apple App Store and caused combined losses of about $1.8 million in Bitcoin. The complaint, filed in California, says the real Sparrow Wallet is available only on desktop operating systems and not on iOS, but scammers released lookalike iOS apps that trick users into handing over control of their funds. The plaintiffs allege that after downloading the spoofed app on iPhone, their accounts were wiped out and cryptocurrency was transferred to the scammers’ wallets. They claim the Bitcoin amounts stolen from May to August 2025 total approximately $875,000, $840,000, and $120,000 for the three named plaintiffs.

The lawsuit argues Apple violated consumer-protection laws by failing to adequately review and monitor apps on the App Store, despite marketing it as a safe and trusted platform. It also claims that when victims reported the fraud, Apple took little or no action and that other fake “Sparrow” apps continued to appear. Apple, in a response described by one outlet, says it removed impersonating apps and terminated related developer accounts.
