Retired Assistant Director of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, challenges Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (retd.), the former chief security officer to late Head of State General Sani Abacha, to provide evidence of Abacha’s final hours. All three outlets report that Amachree calls on Al-Mustapha to produce CCTV footage to support or verify his position, rather than simply rejecting Amachree’s narrative. The dispute centres on accounts contained in Amachree’s memoir and Al-Mustapha’s denial of elements of those claims. Vanguard and Daily Post Nigeria frame Amachree’s challenge as a demand for proof, while Information Nigeria adds that Amachree’s challenge is linked to a claim that Abacha did not die during alleged sexual intercourse, as described in the memoir.
