Netflix has announced “Women Like Us,” a new original comedy film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox. The movie is produced by Higher Ground, the Obamas’ production banner, along with Charles D. King’s Macro Film Studios. Tasha Smith, known for directing work on series including “Bel-Air” and “Mayor of Kingstown,” is set to direct the project.

According to reporting, the story centers on a woman who has recently been widowed and is pulled back into her social life when she is taken to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friend. Netflix is planning to shoot the film in New York City this fall. The announcement marks another collaboration between Netflix and Higher Ground, which previously produced projects for the streamer before the Obamas’ company shifted into independent production. The cast announcement and creative team details are consistent across the outlets, with all confirming the film title, major stars, production companies, and the general release and production timing.
