The Presidency criticises Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, for his recent interview on Channels Television, saying he missed an opportunity to move past the outcome of the 2023 presidential election. In a statement posted on X on Monday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, describes Obi’s performance as a “PR disaster” and argues that the interview failed to improve his standing ahead of 2027. Onanuga says Obi was given a chance to respond constructively to the election results but instead reiterated that he was “rigged out.” He also contends that Obi’s argument relies on ethnic bloc voting and social media support rather than nationwide political structures. Onanuga further accuses Obi of switching political parties when they no longer align with his ambitions, characterising him as a “political nomad.” He says he stopped watching the interview after about 30 minutes, concluding it did not help Obi’s prospects. The remarks are presented as part of continuing exchanges between the Presidency and the opposition following the Sunday interview.
