Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, criticises Peter Obi’s recent interview on Channels TV, describing it as a “PR disaster” for Obi’s 2027 presidential bid. Onanuga, in comments posted on his X account, focuses on two points from the interview with Seun Okinbaloye. He challenges Obi’s explanation of political “nomadism,” where Obi reportedly compared his party movements to President Tinubu’s. Onanuga rejects that comparison and argues that Tinubu has remained consistent since joining politics in the early 1990s, citing Tinubu’s start with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and subsequent movement within ideologically aligned parties.

Onanuga also criticises Obi’s continued claim that he won the 2023 presidential election. He says Obi came third and argues that Obi’s strong performance reflected ethnic bloc voting. Onanuga adds that when asked whether he believed he was rigged out, Obi agreed, which Onanuga characterises as falling into a trap. He further says Obi remains in denial despite a Supreme Court ruling more than three years ago. The reaction comes as political actors discuss future elections.
