A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from Friday through Sunday finds that about one in three Americans support the U.S. war on Iran, the lowest level recorded since the conflict began roughly five months earlier. Support for the conflict remains below 40 percent since U.S. and Israeli strikes on February 28, contrasting with higher public backing seen in some earlier U.S. wars.
The survey also reports that most respondents say President Donald Trump has not clearly communicated the aims of U.S. military involvement in Iran. In particular, 69 percent of Americans—including roughly four in 10 Republicans—say Trump has failed to “clearly explained the goals” of the operation.
At the same time, the poll shows Trump’s approval rating rising to 37 percent, up three points from last month, when his rating tied the lowest point of his presidency. Overall, the results suggest a combination of low support for the conflict and widespread uncertainty among the public about the administration’s objectives.
