Starting Sunday, European Union rules require companies to make clear when users are interacting with AI systems or when content is generated using AI. Multiple outlets report that the EU’s artificial intelligence transparency provisions will take effect on that date, aiming to ensure people can immediately understand when information is produced by AI tools rather than created by humans. The requirements cover both AI interactions—such as when chatbots or other AI systems communicate with users—and AI-generated materials, including images or text created with AI. Firms are expected to provide clear labelling at the point of use so users can recognize that the source involves AI generation or AI-mediated responses. The measures are part of the EU’s broader effort to increase transparency around AI, including deepfakes and other AI-generated content. Companies subject to the rules need to update their product and content practices to include the required notices from Sunday onward.
