The comments follow the Nigeria Police Force’s clarification that the Inspector-General, Olatunji Disu, did not issue a blanket “shoot-on-sight” order, and that Disu referenced Force Order 237, which sets legal and operational guidelines for firearm use and rules of engagement.
Oshiomhole also commends the Department of State Services for appealing a court judgment that imposed life imprisonment on certain convicted offenders instead of the death penalty, saying judges should apply the law strictly. He presents insecurity as President Bola Tinubu’s biggest political risk ahead of the 2027 election, urging Tinubu to set firm deadlines for service chiefs and hold them accountable with measurable benchmarks. While he says insecurity cannot be eliminated overnight, he points to steps taken by the government, including macroeconomic measures, additional recruitment into the armed forces, and creation of new army divisions, and says Nigerians expect sustained and deliberate action.
