Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente Sotto III and Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan have filed separate measures to raise the income level exempt from personal income tax in the Philippines to ₱350,000 per year. Multiple reports say President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., during his penultimate State of the Nation Address on Monday, urged Congress to expand tax relief by increasing the number of workers covered by the exemption, specifically including those earning not more than ₱350,000 annually. In response, Sotto filed Senate Bill No. 2338, titled the Expanded Income Tax Exemption Act of 2026, which proposes raising the current ₱250,000 annual taxable-income threshold to ₱350,000. The proposal also aligns with Marcos’ call for broader coverage of workers receiving the exemption. Separately, Pangilinan filed Senate Bill No. 2344 on July 28, seeking to increase the tax-free threshold to ₱350,000 from ₱250,000 and to adjust the succeeding income tax brackets so more workers can receive larger take-home pay. The bills are at the filing stage and require congressional deliberation and approval to take effect.
