Opposition leaders question the rationale for involving a private operator and raise procedural concerns, including allegations that work may have started before statutory approval. They also argue that the BMC could run the hospital itself, citing the facility’s performance during the COVID-19 period.
Under the plan, Capri Global is set to take over operations through a public-private partnership framework that retains the original PPP structure, with a fresh lease agreement involving land owned by the BMC in Andheri (East). The proposal authorizes a 30-year lease, extendable by another 30 years, and outlines redevelopment into a 1,500-bed not-for-profit tertiary care hospital. The revised plan includes reserving 20% of beds and 20% of OPD services for BMC patients at civic rates.
