Kerala has announced a 24x7 enforcement mechanism for national highways, aimed at reducing overspeeding and road accidents. According to the state’s Transport Minister C P John, the national highway network in Kerala will be divided into six stretches, each roughly 100 km long. For each stretch, dedicated enforcement teams are deployed to patrol around the clock, throughout the week.
The initiative follows attention drawn to highway safety concerns, including incidents reported from the Kuttipuram area, which have prompted calls for stronger monitoring on high-traffic routes. Under the plan, enforcement is carried out continuously in each zone rather than intermittently, with the objective of improving compliance with speed limits and other rules on the highways. Both outlets describe the same structure—six approximately 100 km enforcement zones and round-the-clock deployment—presenting it as a statewide operational change for national highways in Kerala.
