Jio Platforms appoints Akash Ambani as managing director of the company, according to a regulatory filing cited by both outlets. The appointment is for a five-year term and is effective from April 9, 2026. The filings are dated May 7.
Both sources also report that Jio Platforms is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO). They say the company is expected to file draft IPO papers by the end of May or in June.
Akash Ambani has been a board member of Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL), Jio Platforms’ telecom arm, since October 2014. In June 2022, he is elevated to chairman of RJIL.
The companies also note performance milestones tied to Jio’s telecom operations during his tenure, including Jio reaching 100 million subscribers in less than six months after launch in 2016. Both outlets further cite financial results for fiscal year 2026, including profit of more than Rs 30,000 crore and revenue of Rs 1.46 lakh crore.
