“Elsinore,” the biographical drama about Scottish actor Ian Charleson, is scheduled to open this year’s London Film Festival. Multiple outlets report that the film will have its European premiere at the Southbank Centre, screening at the Royal Festival Hall on October 7. The production stars Andrew Scott as Charleson, with Olivia Colman also in the cast. Reports also indicate the film is directed by Simon Stone and written by Stephen Beresford, with the story focused on Charleson’s final months, including his reprisal of Hamlet while he is terminally ill at age 40.
Variety and Deadline add that an opening night gala is planned for Oct. 7, with Scott and cast members expected to attend, including Colman and additional performers named by Variety. Deadline further reports a UK release plan through StudioCanal for cinemas following the festival. The film’s selection is presented by London Film Festival leadership as one of the event’s most anticipated dramas.
