The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) announce plans to strengthen their partnership to tackle money laundering, terrorism financing and other financial crimes. The commitments are made by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, during a courtesy visit to Force Headquarters in Abuja by NFIU Director and Chief Executive Officer Hafsat Bakari and a delegation. Police officials say the discussions focus on improving operational synergy and institutionalising strategic cooperation between the two agencies. A key element is enhancing intelligence sharing so the police can better use NFIU financial intelligence in investigations and prosecutions.
Sources also describe preparations linked to Nigeria’s 2027 Mutual Evaluation process, which is expected to assess how effectively the police utilise NFIU intelligence to dismantle criminal networks and secure convictions related to money laundering and terrorism financing. Police representatives refer to the Force’s specialised Anti-Money Laundering Unit and call for sustained training, modern investigative tools, and actionable intelligence. Bakari and Disu both emphasise the role of the partnership in national security and in strengthening public confidence in law enforcement.
