Lebanese lawyers file a criminal complaint against banker Antoun Sehnaoui after he allegedly met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a trip to Washington earlier this week. Multiple outlets report that more than a dozen lawyers submitted the complaint to Lebanon’s top prosecutor in Beirut, seeking an investigation into Sehnaoui’s conduct.
According to the reports, the complaint alleges that Sehnaoui communicated with or dealt with “the Israeli enemy” and violated Lebanon’s laws related to contact with Israelis, including the country’s Israel boycott and related security provisions. Lawyers are described as saying the alleged meeting occurred while Israel is conducting military operations in Lebanon.
Several accounts point to an image posted online showing Sehnaoui dining with Netanyahu and Netanyahu’s wife, alongside references to a dinner hosted in Washington that included US officials. The outlets also report that it was not immediately clear how prosecutors would proceed, though previous similar cases have led to arrest warrants when defendants were located outside the country. No formal response from Sehnaoui or his representatives is reported at the time of publication.
