Mitch Winehouse, the father of late British singer Amy Winehouse, is ordered by a UK High Court judge to pay nearly £1 million to two of the singer’s friends after he lost a lawsuit about the auctioning of her belongings. The court action was brought after Winehouse’s clothes and other personal items were sold at auctions in 2021 and 2023, including items described across reports such as clothing and accessories and makeup. The friends named in the case were identified as Naomi Parry, the singer’s former stylist, and Catriona Gourlay. The judge rejected Mitch Winehouse’s claim that they profited from sales that he said were improperly handled, and concluded that he had known about the sale plans. In the ruling issued in April and followed by the payment order, the judge characterized Mitch Winehouse’s pursuit of the case as weak and as involving serious, unfounded allegations. In Wednesday’s decision, the judge ordered interim payments to Parry and Gourlay totaling £950,000, and required Mitch Winehouse to cover their legal fees on an indemnity basis. Reports also note that costs estimates were provided for both defendants.

1 month agoAmy Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, has been ordered to pay almost £1 million to the singer’s friends after a failed High Court claim about an auction of Amy’s belongings.He was ordered to make interim payments of £569,330 to the Back To Black star’s former stylist Naomi Parry and £394,521 to her friend Catriona Gourlay within the next two weeks.Mitch must also cover the legal fees of both defendants on an indemnity basis.Parry’s legal costs are estimated at £715,361; meanwhile, Gourlay’s were £487,132.The BBC reports Winehouse spent roughly £950,000 on the case for his own costs too.Mitch Winehouse Mitch claimed that Ms Parry and Ms Gourlay made money from selling Amy Winehouse’s belongings at US auctions in 2021 and 2023, saying they “deliberately concealed” their sales. He argued they had no right to sell the items.But Deputy High Court Judge Sarah Clarke KC had dismissed this claim in April, saying Mitch “knew all along” about the sale plans and saying neither woman had attempted to hide it from him.
