Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi says joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is “like Prophet Noah’s Ark.” He makes the remark after receiving Hon. Kabiru Ibrahim, the Minority Leader of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, who has defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC. Namadi describes the APC as the place for political participation in Jigawa, saying those who are not joining the ruling party are “wasting their time.” He adds that Ibrahim’s move brings an end to opposition in the state House of Assembly, asserting that the chamber is now entirely for APC. Namadi thanks God for what he calls “tremendous successes” associated with APC support across the state. Speaking on his decision, Ibrahim says he joined APC because of its manifesto and Governor Namadi’s leadership style. He also states that he consulted his followers before the defection, including some PDP ward and local government executives, who agreed to move with him. The APC state chairman, Ahmad Garba, assures defectors of equal opportunities within the party and says the party will remain competitive ahead of the general election.
