Saltburn Cricket Club suspends a player accused of cheating after a viral set of incidents shared online. The controversy, dubbed “Clicky Ponting”, centers on allegations that the fielder clicks his fingers to influence an umpire decision, specifically ahead of a caught-behind appeal. Saltburn says it treats the allegations seriously and has placed the player under suspension “for the foreseeable future,” meaning he will not play again for the club in the near term. Multiple outlets report that footage circulating on social media shows several moments, including an incident during Saltburn’s second XI match against Norton in Division Two of the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League. In that video, a Norton batter, Noman Shabir, is shown with the fielder clicking as the ball passes the bat, followed by the ball being caught by the wicketkeeper, Josh Bowes, and the umpire giving the player out. Saltburn also indicates that it will not field the suspended player for a scheduled second-team cup fixture on Wednesday.
