Son Heung-min is named Most Valuable Player in his first MLS All-Star Game appearance after scoring twice in the first half. Playing for Los Angeles FC, the forward captains the MLS All-Stars in the midseason exhibition against the Liga MX All-Stars at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday (local time). The MLS All-Stars fall behind early when Luis Gabriel Rey gives Liga MX a lead nine minutes into the match. Son then helps overturn the deficit, scoring two goals within a span that turns the game in favor of MLS. He first levels the score after a pass from New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil finds him in space, and Son finishes by rolling the ball past Liga MX goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo. Three minutes later, Son again converts a setup from Gil, volleying in a cross to put MLS ahead. Son is substituted in the 35th minute. MLS All-Stars ultimately win 4-3. The award makes Son the first Korean player to receive MVP honors in the MLS All-Star Game.
