India and Germany are reported to be close to signing a major defence agreement valued at about ₹90,000 crore for the construction of submarines in India. According to a report citing a German envoy, the deal is likely to be signed soon. The agreement is expected to support the building of six advanced conventional submarines in India under the Indian Navy’s Project-75I programme. The proposed arrangement is intended to enable the transfer and development of submarine construction capabilities within India, with the submarines being built domestically as part of the programme’s requirements for advanced conventional platforms.
