Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Adewale Olumide Egbedun narrates events leading to the arrest of the state Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye. Egbedun says he and the Deputy Governor and the SSG were present at an INEC stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo and sat together through the proceedings. He alleges that Osun State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan was booed by citizens while on the podium, after which Gotan reportedly made several calls from his seat. Egbedun says he then told the SSG that the Commissioner of Police had ordered his arrest. According to Egbedun, a few minutes later Igbalaye received a call informing him that police officers were waiting for him at his residence, prompting him to leave the meeting.

Egbedun further reports that Igbalaye later told him he was invited to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over allegations that police recovered N4 million and two voter cards belonging to members of his political party allegedly holding a meeting in Igbalaye’s compound. The police earlier described the arrests as following actionable intelligence about a criminal gang operating around Oroki Estate, and said officials recovered millions of naira, electoral materials, and other exhibits during the operation.
