A delegation of Kano business leaders and state officials meets the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to press for the immediate release of the ₦5 billion federal relief fund approved for victims of the Singer Market fire disaster. According to statements attributed to Kano’s office, the delegation tells the SGF that the intervention is meant to support thousands of traders whose livelihoods are disrupted by the fire and to speed up recovery of commercial activity at the market.
The delegation includes representatives from the Kano business community, state finance officials, and market stakeholders. They express appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the intervention and ask for speedy completion of the disbursement process so beneficiaries can access the support without further delay.
In response, Senator Akume assures the delegation that their concerns are noted and reiterates the federal government’s commitment to supporting the victims. The reporting also recalls that the ₦5 billion approval is announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the reception for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the APC, and that an additional ₦3 billion is pledged by the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
