Petrol blended with 20% ethanol (E20) can reduce vehicle mileage by 2% to 6%, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari says in Parliament, according to multiple reports. Gadkari also points to testing and studies conducted on the fuel. He states that extensive trials have not found engine failures associated with E20 use. The minister further says E20 improves performance characteristics, including better acceleration and an improved ride quality compared with E10 (10% ethanol blend). On emissions, Gadkari reports that carbon emissions are about 30% lower with E20 than with E10. Both outlets also note that automobile manufacturers are continuing to honor warranty claims for vehicles that run on E20.
