Maharashtra’s Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik says app-based passenger transport aggregator firms operating in the state must complete registration with the Transport Department by September 1, 2026. He warns that companies that operate without registration, or that violate rules after the deadline, will face stringent legal action. Vehicles used through such unregistered or non-compliant operations would also be subject to enforcement.
The warning is linked to implementation of the state’s Aggregator Policy-2026, which focuses on passenger safety, legal vehicle verification, and accountability for aggregators. Under the policy, vehicles attached to aggregator platforms must hold valid permits and registrations required for carrying passengers, along with the necessary commercial registrations for commercial passenger transport. The policy also requires appropriate insurance coverage for vehicles operating under aggregator platforms and expects aggregators to put in place mechanisms to ensure passenger safety.
Sarnaik says the government supports the aggregator business but expects it to operate within the legal framework and prescribed norms.
