The Osun State Police Command releases the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Teslim Igbalaiye, from its custody, according to multiple Nigerian outlets. The police had arrested Igbalaiye along with five others following a raid on his residence in Osogbo. The reports say the police operation was based on intelligence and linked the suspects to alleged electoral offences, including vote buying, criminal conspiracy, and harbouring a wanted person.
Several sources describe items reportedly recovered from Igbalaiye’s home during the raid, including Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), a voters’ register, cash, and electronic or printing equipment. Nigerian Eye further adds details of the amount of cash recovered and names of the other detainees.
One reported development that preceded the release was a claim by Osun Assembly Speaker Adewale Egbedun that the arrest was politically motivated, following an alleged order by the Commissioner of Police after an incident at an INEC stakeholders’ meeting.
