The United States issues new Iran-related sanctions targeting what it describes as global support networks for Mahan Air, an Iranian airline. In a statement, the US Treasury says the measures focus on entities and individuals involved in activities that support the US- and EU-sanctioned carrier.
The Treasury designates six entities and individuals located in China, India, Russia, and Iran. The US says these designations include companies that act as sales agents for Mahan Air and related support actors. The action is linked to Washington’s assertion that Mahan Air transports personnel affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and can be used in the movement of weapons and drones.
The sanctions are presented as part of broader US efforts to pressure Iran through financial and trade restrictions aimed at entities that help sanctioned parties operate. The newly designated parties face US consequences tied to their alleged support roles, including restrictions on dealings with the targeted organizations and individuals.
