Fortnite is available again on iPhones in Brazil as Epic Games launches the Epic Games Store for iOS users through the Epic Games website. Epic says the store can now be downloaded outside Apple’s standard App Store process, but it criticizes Apple’s required installation flow. According to Epic, the process involves nine steps and includes additional screens warning users about downloading apps from outside the App Store. Epic argues these requirements deter users and restrict competition, adding that Apple previously shortened a similar installation flow in the European Union after regulatory pressure. Epic also disputes Apple’s fees for digital goods sold through third-party app stores, saying Apple applies a 5% Core Technology Commission on such transactions. Because of the fee structure, Epic says it is offering only its own games at this launch. Epic Games Store users in Brazil can download Fortnite and Rocket League Sideswipe, and Epic says purchases of Fortnite via the Epic Games Store include a 20% Epic Rewards bonus not available in the App Store version in Brazil. Epic also says it has informed Brazilian regulators about the impact of the requirements on building a competitive iOS app ecosystem.
