England defender John Stones joins Inter Milan on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract with the Serie A champions. The move follows the end of his Manchester City deal, after 10 years with the club. Stones leaves City at the end of last month, having been a key figure during the team’s successful period under Pep Guardiola, winning multiple Premier League titles as well as domestic cups and a Champions League.
Several reports note that Stones spent the previous seasons affected by injuries, limiting his playing time in the final year. Internationally, he is preparing for the next stage of his career after representing England at the World Cup, where he made appearances including the semi-final, and reached a third-place finish.
Inter’s announcement places the transfer as an addition ahead of the club’s Scudetto title defence. One report says he could make his Inter debut when Inter begin their Serie A campaign at home against Monza on August 22. Other outlets also mention interest from clubs in England, but all agree Stones has chosen Inter.
