Singapore’s Senior Minister K. Shanmugam and Minister for Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Tan See Leng are awarded S$145,000 each in legal costs following their successful defamation suit against Bloomberg and its reporter, Low De Wei. The court had earlier ruled in the case that a Bloomberg article published in December 2024 about Good Class Bungalow (GCB) transactions defamed the ministers. Bloomberg and Low De Wei were ordered to pay damages of S$230,000 to each minister earlier this month. The subsequent order addresses legal costs only. Reporting across outlets indicates the costs figure of S$145,000 (US$113,000) applies to each minister, reflecting trial-related expenses as well as pre- and post-trial costs. One outlet specifies that trial costs amount to about S$65,000, based on S$10,000 for 6½ days of trial, with additional amounts for proceedings before and after the trial. The legal costs awards are separate from the damages already ordered.
