AMD is rolling out its FSR 4.1 upscaling technology to older Radeon graphics hardware, extending newer “hardware-backed” upscaling features beyond the newest RDNA4 generation. AMD says FSR 4.1 support starts in July for RDNA 3 and RDNA 3.5 GPUs, including Radeon RX 7000-series cards, and also covers some integrated graphics with RDNA-based hardware such as Radeon 890M and Radeon 8060S. AMD then plans to expand FSR 4.1 support to the RDNA2 architecture in early 2027, which includes Radeon RX 6000-series and integrated GPUs such as Radeon 680M, along with other RDNA2-based devices mentioned by outlets including Steam Deck.

Multiple reports note that adapting FSR 4.1 to older architectures required work to run the upscaling path using older integer-based capabilities rather than the newer FP8-focused hardware found on RDNA4. Ars Technica and Slashdot also flag that performance and image quality may be different, with earlier community testing suggesting a possible performance hit versus RDNA4. AMD states that FSR 4.1 updates will be delivered through drivers and should work in games that support FSR 4.1 on supported GPUs.
