Cebu City veterinary authorities cull 19 pigs in a remote area of Barangay Quiot after laboratory testing confirms African Swine Fever (ASF) in nine hogs. The Cebu City Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) says the depopulation is conducted humanely and follows national ASF disease-control protocols. DVMF reports that confirmed ASF-positive results come from blood samples of nine pigs, prompting the response to prevent further spread.
The clarification comes after Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival publicly announced that the city had culled “more or less 20” pigs to contain a suspected ASF case. DVMF later specified that the figure is 19 animals and that the operation is tied to confirmed test results rather than an unverified suspicion.
Dr. Jessica Maribojoc, head of the DVMF, describes the culling as part of the local containment measures carried out by veterinary personnel in response to the ASF-positive findings.
