Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says Peter Obi, a presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), deliberately misrepresented an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Keyamo accused Obi of lying and questioned the reliability of claims made by the opposition figure regarding alleged harassment connected to Obi’s political activities.
Keyamo’s comments follow an earlier directive in which he demanded that Obi issue a public apology to airport staff and pay a ₦25,000 fine. The minister said airport authorities acted after the vehicle in question was improperly left unattended, and he stated that CCTV footage supports the account that the clamp was applied without staff knowledge that the vehicle belonged to Obi at the time.
Obi has previously rejected Keyamo’s position, describing it as misleading and alleging political targeting. The dispute continues as both sides present competing narratives about what happened at the airport. The exchanges have also been framed within wider political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
