The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says former Students’ Union Government (SUG) president of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), James Adio, has been released after being remanded by an Ekiti State Magistrate Court. Both outlets report that Adio’s detention followed a remand ordered by the court, and that NANS announced his release days later.
According to NANS President Akinteye Babatunde, Adio regained his freedom and he spoke with him personally, describing him as being in good spirits. NANS also credits internal leadership within the organization, including the NANS Joint Campus Committee chair in Ekiti State and its National Head of Administration, for actions taken toward securing Adio’s release.
While NANS publicly portrays Adio’s remand as a miscarriage of justice and says there were no criminal charges against him despite his status as the complainant in the case, neither source provides details of what led to his release.
