The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reports two separate incidents near the Strait of Hormuz off Oman involving a tanker. In the first incident, a tanker is struck by an unknown projectile about 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman. UKMTO says the vessel’s company security officer reports the projectile damages the engine room and that the tanker is left not under command. The regional coast guard is informed. UKMTO adds there are no reported casualties or environmental impact and advises vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report suspicious activity.
In the second incident, UKMTO says it receives a report of an explosion about 21 nautical miles northeast of Oman’s Khasab. The tanker’s master reports seeing a large splash and an explosion close to the vessel. UKMTO states that no damage to the vessel has been reported in connection with this explosion.
