Police in Ipswich, Suffolk, say they have arrested an 18-year-old man following a suspected explosion at a block of flats that damaged several windows and led to an evacuation. Officers were called to Princes Street shortly before 9pm on Friday, 31 July, after reports that windows had been blown out. Residents in the building are told to leave their homes, and the road is closed for safety reasons, with diversions in place while the area remains closed overnight.
Suffolk Police state that the arrest is made at around 9.05pm on suspicion of arson/criminal damage with intent to endanger life. The man is taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the East of England Ambulance Service attend the scene.
Police say no injuries are reported. Enquiries continue to determine the circumstances of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
