APC spokesperson Timi Frank criticises former President Olusegun Obasanjo ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, saying Obasanjo’s political influence no longer affects electoral outcomes. In a statement issued on Friday, Frank reacts to recent remarks by Obasanjo involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Frank argues that Obasanjo repeatedly attacks Atiku as elections approach, describing it as a recurring election-year pattern rather than a substantive effort to promote Obasanjo’s preferred candidate.
Frank also challenges Obasanjo’s record of endorsements, saying candidates Obasanjo supported have been defeated at the polls, including in Obasanjo’s home state of Ogun. He urges Obasanjo to openly campaign for any candidate he backs rather than directing criticism toward Atiku. Frank further says Atiku is not the core issue facing Nigeria at present and calls on Obasanjo to assess the performance of the current administration instead of focusing on Atiku. According to Frank, leadership outcomes in 2027 will be determined by voters rather than endorsements or opposition from political figures.
