Rivers State’s political environment remains tense as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, makes a new public claim about his experience. Speaking in Port Harcourt on Saturday during a special media chat, Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, says there is no politician in the state today more experienced than he is. He specifically dates his political experience from 1999 and adds that he is the most experienced politician still active since that period.
The remarks come as Wike responds to what the outlets describe as Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s return to Wike’s political grouping or family. Wike also reacts to the ongoing fallout from the protracted political crisis in Rivers State that began in 2023, during which he previously accused four politicians in the state of allegedly misleading Fubara into engaging in a face-off with him. In Saturday’s comments, Wike maintains that those he says deceived the governor have nothing positive to contribute to the state’s development.
