Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is in effect over several areas in Luzon as Tropical Depression Luis continues moving northwest over the Philippine Sea east of Aurora, according to Pagasa. Multiple reports from Sunday and Monday say the signal is first raised over three areas after the low-pressure area develops into Tropical Depression Luis, with coverage including the Polillo Islands, the eastern portion of Camarines Norte, and the northern portion of Catanduanes. Coverage then expands as Luis continues: later bulletins report TCWS No. 1 remains over four areas, adding the northern portion of Camarines Sur, while other updates state it is raised over more locations, including reports of TCWS No. 1 being up over 10 areas on Monday as Luis maintains its strength.
Pagasa tracks Luis at varying times and distances from coastal points. Sunday bulletins place Luis around 285 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds near 55 kph and gusts up to about 70 kph, moving northwest at roughly 15 kph. In addition to areas under TCWS No. 1, Pagasa reports that Luis is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila and nearby regions.
