The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues an orange alert for 12 districts in Kerala ahead of heavy rain activity on August 2. The weather warning covers Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

IMD warns that heavy rainfall could lead to hazardous conditions including flash floods and mudslides. It also cautions that roads and neighbourhood areas may be inundated in affected districts.

The reports describe the alert as part of the day’s weather outlook and emphasize the potential for rapid, localized impacts rather than only prolonged rainfall. Authorities and residents are urged to be prepared for disruptions caused by flooding and landslide risk, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and unstable terrain.
