McDonald’s Korea suspends sales of a limited-edition Chungju Corn Cheese Croquette Burger after receiving multiple customer complaints that small stones were found in the product. The company says the issue raises a safety concern and therefore ends sales early to protect customers, according to a McDonald’s Korea official. Sales stop on Thursday, nearly two weeks before the burger’s scheduled promotion end date of Aug. 12. The burger was part of the fast-food chain’s “Taste of Korea” seasonal campaign and is described by outlets as one of the campaign’s best-selling items. McDonald’s Korea launched the burger on July 9 as the sixth menu item in the campaign, and it generated more than 1 million units in sales within about two weeks, according to one report. The burger is made with mozzarella cheese croquette using waxy corn from Chungju in North Chungcheong Province. McDonald’s says the item is created in collaboration with Chungju. Both sources report that complaints about customers biting into stones prompted the early withdrawal of the product.
