The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State condemns an attack on Barrister Ifeanyi Nworie, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain who recently defected, and on journalists covering the incident. PDP states the event happened on Saturday at Idembia in Ezza South Local Government Area. According to PDP, the attackers targeted Nworie, his supporters and journalists, and allegedly caused damage to vehicles while assaulting several people with dangerous weapons. The party says eight people are receiving treatment in hospital.

At a press briefing in Abakaliki on Saturday night, PDP chairman Chukwuma Igwe alleges the violence was carried out by agents and appointees of the APC-led Ebonyi State Government and names additional figures, including a former House of Representatives member and senior state government officials. PDP describes the incident as an undemocratic attempt to undermine preparations for the 2027 general elections in the state.

PDP calls on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, and the armed forces, to protect citizens and ensure freedom of political association and impartial enforcement so that all parties can participate on a level playing field.
